Taylor Kinney, well renowned for his role in the popular TV series “Chicago Fire,” has deeply mourned the loss of a significant individual in his career. News broke on June 12 of the passing of actor Treat Williams at the age of 71, resulting from a tragic motorcycle accident during a turn. Treat gained fame for his performances in projects like “Everwood” and the 1979 film adaptation of the musical “Hair.” However, for devoted “Chicago Fire” fans, he will forever be remembered as Benny Severide, the father of Taylor’s long-standing character, Kelly Severide. The unexpected announcement has lead to an outpouring of condolences , flooding social media platforms.
Despite Taylor’s intentional decision to maintain a low profile since taking a hiatus from the series earlier this year, he emerged from his personal retreat to pay tribute to Treat just one day after his untimely demise. People officially stated that Taylor expressed his deep condolences, stating, “My thoughts and prayers go out to Treat’s family. He portrayed my father on ‘Chicago Fire’ and served as a father figure to everyone on set. I will always cherish our conversations and his extraordinary ability to brighten up any room. We all send our love, and he will be greatly missed.”
Longtime viewers of the show will recall Taylor and Treat’s close collaboration between 2013 and 2018, spanning seven seasons. Treat’s character, Benny, made his debut appearance in the 13th episode of the first season, where Kelly sought his father’s guidance regarding his love life and Firehouse 51. While their father-son relationship began with strain, they worked diligently to improve it throughout their five years of on-screen partnership. It’s worth mentioning that Benny’s character met a tragic end in the fifth episode of the seventh season, passing away from a stroke.
Although Treat’s tenure on “Chicago Fire” was relatively brief, he wholeheartedly embraced the show and frequently shared his experiences on social media. Prior to his final episode on the NBC drama, he took to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes photo featuring himself, Taylor, and fellow co-stars Miranda Rae Mayo and Kim Delaney, who portrayed Stella Nichole Severide and Jennifer Sheridan, respectively. Alongside the photo, Treat wrote, “Just finished my episodes on #ChicagoFire. Miranda Rae Mayo, Taylor Kinney, Kim Delaney. Exceptional actors, all.”
